[UPDATE] He
He would have passed, except there was a clusterfuck in the parking lot and he bumped a curb with his tire pulling into the space. Poor kid. He is really upset.

Good luck to him!

DRIVE TEST SUPPLICANTS ONLY

When I was a kid, one of my au-pairs (already licensed in Germany) took seven tried to pass the MD test (2 written test failures, and 4 driving failures). Most of these tests are petty easy though, so hopefully this will go well.

Will there be a celebratory donut lessons in the nearest parking lot upon passing?
![]() 01/09/2018 at 12:32 |

on the upside, he’ll be less nervous the next time and know what to expect.
![]() 01/09/2018 at 12:35 |

Well that sucks. Just means he’ll be able to pass next time, no worries. How long till they let him retake it?

Sorry to hear he failed. I somehow passed even though I’m pretty sure I broke a couple laws. The guy might have passed me because I had AC.

Bummer he didn’t pass - how soon can he take it again?
My road test was soooooo easy. Unbelievably. I was wearing a cross country shirt and the examiner noticed and just chatted with me about it the entire trip. Literally drove a loop around four or five different roads, all right hand turns. No parallel parking, no three point turns, nada. Maybe he just sensed my greatness :).

Thinking donuts in a sporttrac aren’t the best idea

That should donut just fine, although I suppose donuts in the nearest dirt lot would be a lot easier on the tires.

When I took my driver’s test for the first time, I got a particularly stern drive tester lady. She got in the car with me at the MVA building (this was in Maryland which calls the DMV the MVA because they insist on being different) then drive across the street to the test course.
I got as far as the stop sign to exit the parking lot and drive across the street when the lady told me to put the car in park and the test was over. I was oblivious as to why, and she explained that I had stopped with the front of the car over the line for the stop sign, and she was failing me.
Being as car-obsessed as I still am now, I was stunned. I was the kid who paid attention and took notes in driver’s ed. I thought surely stopping with the nose of the car over the line for a stop sign was just reason to mark a couple points off my score, not stopping the test before it even started, but what was I supposed to do, argue with her?
My mom brought me back the next day and I got a different tester dude who was bending over backwards nice. He even offered to get out of the car and guide me in to the exceedingly large parallel “parking space” on the test course. I was like, “thanks but I’ve got this.” I nailed it.
Fuck that tester lady though.

In certain parts of the country*
In my area, kids get a special school license at 14 because otherwise it’s a parent driving them to school. You have to live at least 3 miles away, which is, well, everyone.

When your instructor guy is a possibly intoxicated Iraqi guy who slept half the time, it becomes a little less challenging.

My kid passed by like one point. Like father, like son: so did I. Your kid will take care of it like a boss when he retakes it.

I passed my written test by a point.
I hit a cone and forgot a blinker on the road test.
They GAVE ME A LICENSE ANYWAY.

I’m not saying I haven’t gotten the 4Runner plenty sideways but also, it wasn’t the best idea probably.

I swear your son looked familiar to me, then it clicked. He could be mistaken for Dave Mustaine.
in the ‘80s, that is. Dave’s all old and shit now.

Man that stinks, I remember mine. As we were walking out I noticed he had already written pass on the test. We did the cone test and looped around the block. That was it, max maybe 3 minutes.

My first driver’s test was also failed because I bumpe the curb while parallel parking. I believe my exact reaction was “aw son of a...shit”

Damn, tell him not to worry and he’ll get it next time! I had to take my test twice - our test car was a 2003 Impala....HATED it as we had to back into our parking space at the end and I couldn’t see a damn thing out the back of that boat, haha! I didn’t get in between the lines correctly. Aced it on my second time though!

That really sucks. Just a mistake though. Just has to take the test again.
